Michael Thomas: WR expected to miss remainder of the season due to injury

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen announced that star wide receiver Michael Thomas has a dislocated toe and is undergoing surgery since it hasn’t responded well to rehab, so the team is placing him on the injured reserved list and his chances of returning back this season are almost null.

“I don’t anticipate that he’ll be able to return this year”, Allen said when asked about a timeline for Thomas to be able to play for the Saints.

Thomas signed a hefty contract extension three seasons ago

Michael Thomas was at one point, one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, he in fact holds the NFL record of most catches in a single season with 149.

After that 2019 season in which he also added 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns, Thomas received a five year and $96 million dollar extension, but unfortunately the wideout has been injured for a better part of the first three years of that deal and the Saints are surely not satisfied with their investment.

Michael Thomas was playing great this 2022 season

Michael Thomas was having a bounce back season before inevitably showing up once again in the injury report, in the three games he played this year he had recorded 16 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns.

Head coach Dennis Allen mentioned that Thomas worked hard on his rehabilitation hoping to avoid surgery but wasn’t able to return to the field.

“It hasn’t healed the way everybody was kind of hoping that it would,” Allen told the media.
